About Me

Sharon Esler MC BN RCC

I am a Vancouver-based therapist with a special interest in supporting individuals who are feeling distressed and stuck in life.

This feeling of stuckness is often accompanied by a deep desire for a more meaningful life…one that aligns with personal values and brings about a greater sense of peace and overall wellbeing.

Research strongly suggests that a life lacking in meaning is closely associated with psychological (and often physical) distress that can manifest in any number of ways including anxiety, depression, and addictive habits.

Once an individual reaches out to me we begin the work of exploring the powerful, yet often invisible forces (both internal and external) that can shape our lives and move us away from our values and toward distress.

Over the course of therapy, my clients engage in guided self-reflection that generally results in a gradual unfolding of insight, the liberation from constraints that have been holding them hostage, the illumination of a meaningful path forward, and the courage to create a more satisfying life.

I bring to my work a varied background and a wealth of life experience that includes a career in nursing, motherhood, a long term marriage, teaching music and nursing, a variety of creative pursuits, a lifelong commitment to wellness, a later-in-life return to university, and the navigation of my own life challenges.

My experiences, and especially my previous work as an oncology nurse, allow me to bring genuine understanding and empathy to my clients, as well as an ability to hold space for deep emotional expression.

Mine is a trauma-informed integrative model of therapy that I call Existential Parts Work. I draw inspiration from a wide range of therapeutic approaches including: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Jungian Depth Psychology. The way in which I engage with these and other approaches is informed by the unique needs, strengths and personal resources that my clients bring to the therapeutic process.

Life can be hard and I have deep respect for those who seek therapy in an effort to make the most of their one precious life.

If you are feeling stuck and distressed, I encourage you to reach out and begin this Project of a Lifetime…the reclaiming of your authentic Self and the alignment of life with personal values. It is my fervent belief that the awakening associated with this kind of therapy can reap tremendous benefits that will last a lifetime.

It would be my privilege to accompany you on your unique journey to a more meaningful, peaceful, and satisfying life.
